Invisible Giant
The rail that put the internet in every pocket.
In the Global South, the infrastructure bet is the connection itself. Make data almost free, and a digital economy switches on behind it.
When mobile data becomes almost free, an entire digital economy switches on behind it.
September 2016. India carried some of the world's most expensive mobile data until Reliance Jio switched on a national 4G rail and gave voice and data away for months. It signed 50 million subscribers in 83 days, helped push the price of data down by roughly 95 percent, and now carries around 500 million users - the largest network running on one rail.
The decision that mattered: treat the connection itself as the infrastructure, not a premium to ration.
In the Global South, cheap data is the base layer the whole digital economy stands on.
