Nigeria makes its payment data stay home

From 2027, the payment data stays onshore.

You cannot build sovereign intelligence on data you do not govern.

Data sovereignty is becoming law in Nigeria.

A Central Bank of Nigeria circular requires that from 1 January 2027, all payment data generated in the country - the databases, switching logs, backups, and disaster-recovery systems - be processed and stored inside Nigeria.

The point: before a country can run AI or scale finance on its own terms, the data those systems learn from and move money across has to be governable at home.

Nigeria is building the ground floor of its own digital economy.
