Power from the Rift

A nation drilled its way to clean power

Kenya drilled the Rift Valley into Africa's largest geothermal grid.

Baseload power does not have to be fossil. Kenya drilled its way to power that runs day and night.

While drought idles the hydro dams, Kenya's lights stay on from heat drilled out of the Rift Valley. In 2024 geothermal supplied 46% of the country's electricity, running near-continuously as KenGen expanded its Olkaria field over four decades. Renewable, homegrown baseload is how a nation stops importing its energy future.
