AI at the Frontier

The AI that saw the variant first

An AI built in Tunis saw the variant before the WHO named it.

World-class AI has a new address. It was built in Tunis, and it saw the variant first.

Before the WHO could name a dangerous variant, an AI built in Tunis had already flagged it. InstaDeep, founded on two laptops in Tataouine, built an early-warning system with BioNTech that caught more than 90% of WHO-designated COVID variants, on average two months ahead. Building world-class AI from Africa is why the frontier of the field now runs through Tunis.
